The EPIC Experience

Thank you for choosing EPIC Imaging as a partner in your health care needs. Diagnostic imaging, also called radiology, is a highly specialized field of medicine that uses advanced technology to reveal the internal structure and function of the human body. The field has greatly enhanced the diagnosis and treatment of disease and eliminated the need for many invasive medical procedures.

As specialists in medical imaging, we understand diagnostic tests can create anxious moments for many patients. This portion of our web site is designed to help alleviate those feelings by acquainting you with what you can expect when you arrive at our center.

Outpatient Is Different

The first thing you will notice when you arrive at one of EPIC’s centers is how different we are from hospital imaging facilities. Everything is under one roof. There are no departments to search out. There is no cumbersome admitting procedure. Parking is easy and you are courteously greeted by one of our staff. The environment is relaxed and you are treated as an individual with unique needs.

Check-in Is Easy

We have a full time staff of insurance and billing specialists to assist you with your insurance needs. You will meet briefly with one of these specialists to complete your registration process. You will need to bring your insurance card with you which our staff is required to copy for your confidential medical record. Registration basically involves recording the responsible parties for billing purposes. If your visit is the result of a work related or traffic related injury, our staff will need additional information. To save time, you may pre-register on this site using our on-line form. If you prefer, you may print this form and bring it with you to the center. Whichever you choose, reviewing the information on the pre-registration form will ensure you have the necessary paperwork with you.

Proper Preparation is Critical

Diagnostic imaging procedures use highly sophisticated equipment. Correct preparation for your exam is extremely important to ensure your test yields the information necessary for accurate diagnosis. Our staff is available by phone to help you prepare and answer your questions during working hours. Detailed exam preparations are available by clicking on Find Your Exam in the menu on the left.

Some Waiting Is Possible

As the leading, full-service outpatient imaging facility in Oregon, EPIC Imaging is often called upon to work in emergency appointments. While we do everything possible to stay on schedule, it may be necessary for you to wait. Naturally, our patients with appointments are seen first and we apologize in advance if you are asked to wait longer than you expected. However, be assured we are working hard to see you as quickly as possible.

When waiting, it is also important to remember that EPIC has many different types of machines and many different types of exams. Each require different exam lengths. It is common for patients to see others who arrived after they did being seen first. This is generally because they are being seen on a different piece of equipment.

Your Needs Are Important

At EPIC Imaging, our Patient Services are built upon the principle that each of our patients is an individual with unique needs and concerns. You can expect a clear explanation of your exam and thorough answers to any questions you might have. To give you the best possible care, please tell us:

  •  Of any worries you have about the exam.
•  If you have had a bad experience before with this exam.
•  Where you had this exam last so that we may borrow those films for comparison if necessary.
•  If you are going back to your doctor within two days of your exam or if your doctor asked for an immediate phone call.
•  Exactly what the symptoms are that prompted your exam and of any related surgery or conditions.
•  If you are pregnant or breast feeding.
•  If you are diabetic or have allergies.
Each Person Has A Unique Role

Our support staff specializes in appointments, check in, registration, financial counseling and obtaining your outside medical records. Our technologists are the highly skilled individuals who will be with you during your procedure. These specially trained individuals are experts in the equipment they operate. They have extensive experience working with patients to achieve the highly detailed images the radiologist will need to aid in diagnosis.

Your technologist will ask you questions about your symptoms and history to help ensure your exam achieves the desired results. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or express concerns. Your technologist wants you to be as comfortable as possible with the procedure.

Your technologist works very closely throughout your exam with a radiologist. A radiologist is a medical doctor specializing in interpreting the detailed images produced by the different equipment. Generally you will not be seen by the radiologist while at the center but if this is important to you, please mention it to your technologist and we will try and accommodate your request.

Interpreting or “reading” an exam is a highly specialized area of practice. Our staff radiologists are experts at interpreting the many subtleties revealed by the sophisticated technology at EPIC. It is not uncommon for them to personally call your physician while you are still at the center if they have a concern or need clarification on your medical history. The full picture of your exam outcome is best seen as a combination of your exam results joined with the clinical findings of your doctor. For this reason, you will not be given the results at the center unless your doctor has made special arrangements. Instead the results will be delivered to your physician who will view them in the context of your full history to give you the clearest picture of your overall health.

Your Role in Your Exam

Each patient plays an important role in their own exam. You are the leader of your health care team and your own best advocate in your health care decisions. You have a right to compassionate, courteous service and the best technology can give you. At EPIC we strive to ensure you get the best care possible. You can help by carefully following your exam preparations, letting us know in advance if there are any outside films needed for comparison and asking for any special help you might need. You can also help EPIC improve the level of care by bringing to our attention any difficulties you may have had during your exam and completing our patient satisfaction survey.
