Preventive Medicine is the foundation of quality health care. It is the area of practice that focuses on keeping us healthy and maintaining the best possible quality of life throughout our life span.

In radiology, preventive medicine focuses on screening procedures to recognize small changes that may signal the early stages of a disease. The earlier a problem is diagnosed and treated the more positive the outcome is for the patient.

Rapid advances in imaging technology have greatly improved the early diagnosis of disease while simultaneously eliminating the need for many, invasive surgical procedures. For example, we now have extremely effective techniques to see many types of cancer in its earliest stages, detect bone loss that signals the onset of osteoporosis and measure plaque build-up in arteries.

EPIC Imaging occupies a leadership role in this area through its ongoing acquisition of the most sophisticated and sensitive equipment available and its commitment to developing screening protocols that provide baseline images, consistent methods of comparison over time and emphasis on regular follow-up.

EPIC was the first facility in Portland to offer CT Lung Cancer Screening to the public, a procedure capable of detecting cancer too small to be seen on traditional x-rays. Since that time, we have worked closely with the Alliance for Lung Cancer to help realize the promise of dramatically improved survival rates through CT Lung Cancer Screening.
