The Pain Consult

The goal of your initial pain management consultation is to determine whether or not interventional pain therapy is appropriate or indicated for the type of discomfort you are experiencing. Your appointment will last about 45 minutes and begin with a very comprehensive history.

Most of our patients are referred to us from other physicians. At the time of this referral, we ask your doctor for relevant clinical notes related to your condition, a record of treatments such as acupuncture, chiropractic care or physical therapy. We also ask to review any prior diagnostic imaging studies you may have had.

Following a review of your health history, Dr. Desai will conduct an examination. He will be looking for nerve or muscle weakness, numbness, any physical limitations and range of motion that causes pain.

He will then review any prior imaging studies you have had with you. If necessary, he will order additional studies. Together you will develop a treatment plan.

Prior to your visit, you will receive a new patient packet containing very important paperwork. Please complete it carefully and fully prior to your appointment. We look forward to seeing you and urge you to call if you have any additional questions.
